Following Dame Carol Black’s review of Britain’s working-age population, a study into work-related health has been launched. The £320,000 project – funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), proposes to discover what organisations can do to manage work-related health issues. Surveying more than 40 small, medium and large scale organisations over two and a half years, it will examine how the work environment and work systems affect workers lives. Researchers hope the results of the study will have a long-term impact on tackling work-related health and lead to greater employee commitment, staff performance, satisfaction and productivity. HSE figures for 2007/08 revealed that more than 2 million people were suffering from an illness they believed was caused, or made worse by their current or past work, while 28 million days were lost to work-related ill health. Dame Carol Black’s review, in March last year, found the annual economic cost of working days lost was more than £100bn a year – equivalent to the annual running costs of the NHS. EasyConverter is a simple to use altformat creation tool meeting the needs of dyslexic, visually impaired and learning disabled computer users. 10 reasons to upgrade 1. Input Picture Files
EasyConverter version 4 can now input one or several image files including JPEG, BMP and TIFF formats. This improvement is ideal for organisations that have previously scanned books but saved them as image files. If several images are selected, typically various pages scanned from a book, a separate dialog is displayed that enables you to preview and sort the images into the correct sequence. 2. KES input
EasyConverter now opens and imports Kurzweil (.KES) project files created by Kurzweil 3000 version 8 or later. This newly supported input format is ideal for educational establishments who may have a history of scanning materials using Kurzweil, but now are looking to output to a wide range of alternative formats for a broader range of reading needs. 3. Daisy 3 output
EasyConverter now allows users to create the very latest DAISY 3 books according to the Daisy 3 standard (ANSI/NISO Z39.86-2005) to be exact!
4. Respect Blank Lines in Braille EasyConverter version 4 now includes a new option to respect blank lines. Without this option, line breaks are ignored and EasyConverter attempts to work out the document structure itself. In some documents the line breaks are important, in poetry for example.
5. Six key Braille input Users who prefer to edit their Braille file using six key Braille input are now able to do so directly inside EasyConverter’s Braille previewer. Simply use the F, D, S, J, K and L keys as the six Braille dots. 6. New Braille Tables
New style profiles for Welsh, Dutch and Greek Braille are now included. 7. Bulleted Lists
New UK and US Braille tables have been added that display bulleted lists. 8. Scanning now 35% Faster! Scanning multiple pages through an automatic paper feeder is now at least 35% faster. 9. Clearer Progress Information EasyConverter now provides more information about the current stage and the progress of your conversion from PDFs, images or scanned documents. 10. Non-English Documents Increased performance for non-English PDFs, images, scanned documents and Kurzweil (.KES) project files. To talk to an EasyConverter expert call 023 8029 4508

We have some incredible offers on our most popular assistive and ergonomic computer equipment throughout March. For example, the ever popular Evoluent mouse has been dramatically reduced by 25% to just £49. The grip is the same as on an ordinary mouse, just turned sideways into a handshake position. The shape supports your hand in a fully upright handshake position that eliminates forearm twisting. Keytools is at the heart of the battle to prevent Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) in the workplace. Avoiding twisting of the wrist is critically important in preventing strains. Buy your Evoluent mouse. Labels: ergonomic, Evoluent Mouse, offers, Repetitive Strain Injury, RSI

A worrying report from The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy estimates that Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) continues to cost UK business £300m a year. Shockingly, official figures show the rate of RSI has not changed in the past six years, with more than 200,000 a year suffering in pain. The latest figures also show that 2.8 million working days were lost last year due to RSI, with each person affected taking an average of 13 days off sick. Physiotherapists warn that businesses and the government need to do more to protect the UK workforce from repetitive strain injury. Pauline Cole, an occupational health expert at the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, said: "There has been little improvement despite the increasing focus on workplace health. Government and businesses need to do more to tackle this problem. We may then, after the frustration of many years of no progress, begin to see some reduction in the rates of this almost completely preventable condition."
The call follows last year’s review by Dame Carol Black, the National Director for Health and Work. Dame Black’s report urged business to take part in pilot schemes making access to work-related health support more widely available.
