The HandshoeMouse was created following extensive research and medical analysis by scientists at the Erasmus University Hospital in Rotterdam. The sweeping curves of the design allow the hand to rest in a natural and relaxed position eliminating any unnecessary strain. The HandshoeMouse has left and right click light-touch buttons and a central scroll button which are all ergonomically placed so that all functions are accessible to the resting hand without crossing over your fingers.

With a standard mouse, the repetitive lifting of the fingers and unnatural resting hand position results in overuse of the extensor muscles in the hand and wrist. Overexertion of these muscles can then lead to further damage of the muscles deep in the neck.

The HandshoeMouse was invented to combat this strain by allowing the hand and fingers to sit in a natural resting position on the mouse and virtually eliminating tendon movement in the fingers. Its unique shape supports hand and wrist stability and the buttons only require touch force in order to operate. 

The benefit of using the HandshoeMouse has been validated through comparison with a standard computer mouse. Using an electromyogram (EMG) to measure muscle tension, it was discovered that users of the conventional mouse have high muscle tension whereas users of the HandShoe had relaxed muscles. Additionally, field tests showed that users with previous complaints found these to be significantly reduced if not completely alleviated after using the HandShoe over the period.
